Dhanbad Oct 26: In a bid to enhance farmers’ income and bring Jharkhand on the map of agriculture export, the first consignment of fresh vegetables was sent from Pakur district of Jharkhand to Doha, Qatar on Tuesday afternoon.
Chairman of Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority ( APEDA), ministry of commerce and agriculture departments, the government of India and deputy commissioner of Pakur Varun Ranjan jointly flagged off the consignment in an official function in Pakur on Tuesday afternoon.
A senior official of the Pakur district administration said that in the first consignment of fresh vegetables two MT of colocasia and two quintals of beans have been sent to Doha by shipment through Kolkata.
“ The objective of this initiative is to enhance the income of the farmers of the region and bring Jharkhand on the map of agriculture export state”, said the deputy commissioner while flagging off the consignment.
The DC, on the occasion, said that in coming days shipments of more fresh vegetables such like peas, green chilly, onion and others would be sent from Pakur to other parts of the globe.’
Official sources said APEDA registered eminent exporter Gopal Saha’s firm M/S JBL Enterprises West Bengal has been given an assignment and it would be delivered to Family Food Centre (FFC) Doha Qatar.
APEDA secretary, general manager, deputy general manager, APEDA regional head, Pakur district agriculture officer (DAO), block technical manager, district development manager NABARD, Krishi Vigyan Kendra chief graced the flag-off ceremony.
