New Delhi, March 14: The first semiconductor fabrication unit will be announced in the coming weeks, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of information technology and railways, who also added that the semiconductor programme will meet the need of India’s expanding electronics industry.
According to Vaishnaw, 99% of smartphones sold domestically are built in India, which has a near to $87 billion electronics manufacturing business. Mobile phone exports are predicted to reach $9.5 to $10 billion in 2023.
He continued by saying that the government has spoken to practically all of the stakeholders and had established credibility, so the semiconductor programme is almost at a turning point.
“What we have done so far is we have practically touched base with every possible stakeholder in the industry – The gas manufacturers, chemical manufacturers, photo lithography equipment makers, suppliers… We have clearly established a benchmark of very high say-do ratio,” Vaishnaw said speaking at the CII Partnership Summit. 2023.
