New Delhi, Dec 5: Delhi reported its first cases of new COVID-19 variant omicron on Sunday.
The patient admitted to LNJP Hospital had returned from Tanzania, informed Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday.
“Till now, 17 people who tested positive for Covid have been admitted to the hospital,” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
This is the fifth case of Omicron reported in the Country. Previously, two men in Karnataka tested positive for the Omicron variant, in the first cases to be reported from India. The third known case of the Omicron Covid-19 variant in India came to light from Gujarat where a man from Jamnagar, who had returned from Zimbabwe, tested positive for the disease. The fourth case has been reported in a 33-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Kalyan-Dombivli who has a travel history to Cape Town in South Africa.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop international flights in the view of Omicron variant.
