New Delhi, Jan 23: At least five contract workers at an ISRO canteen in Thiruvananthapuram died after their car collided with a truck near Ambalapuzha in the Alapuzha district of Kerala in the early hours of Monday.
Four out of five died on the spot while the fifth person succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital.
As per Ambalappuzha Police, the incident occurred late at night on the National Highway.

According to the police, the deceased youths were identified as Prasad, Shiju, Amal, Sachin and Sumod. They were contract employees working at the canteen of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Thiruvananthapuram. They were on a late-night drive on the national highway to attend a marriage function. Their car was hit by the truck coming in the opposite direction.
On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot. The truck loaded with rice was en route to Alappuzha from Andhra Pradesh when the accident took place.
The truck driver has been taken into custody. The bodies of the deceased persons have been sent to the Alappuzha Medical College for an autopsy.
