Siwan, Jan 23: At least three people have died and several others were hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor in Bala village in Lakari Nabiganj of Siwan district in Bihar on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Naresh Bin, Janak Bin, Rajesh Rawat and Dhurendra Manjhi.
After receiving the information about the incident, District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pandey reached Sadar Hospital Siwan at midnight and enquired about the matter.
“A total of three people have died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Siwan’s Lakari Nabiganj. Seven people are undergoing treatment. Ten people have also been arrested in this connection,” said the DM on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the DM said that the cause of the death will be ascertained only after an autopsy report.
Earlier in December, more than 70 people died after consuming illicit liquor in the Chhapra district in Bihar. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested a liquor smuggler in connection with the incident and also recovered Rs 2.17 lakh in cash.
The hooch tragedy in Chhapra hogged the national limelight. After the incident, the Saran police launched an operation to identify and arrest those suspected of being involved in the illegal liquor trade, transportation, smuggling and brewing.
