Ranchi, Feb 21: In the biggest case of fodder scam, 41 convicts including RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav will be given the quantum of punishment today by the CBI court.

He is currently admitted to the paying ward of RIMS Ranchi. He will appear online through video conferencing at noon.

Dr. Vidyapati, the chief physician treating Lalu, said that it is natural to be tense before any hearing. Lalu Yadav is suffering from many diseases which are being treated by the medical board. Lalu’s kidney is in the fourth stage, blood pressure is normal.

“Tension rises before any hearing, but if Lalu is examined today his health status will be known. The medicine will be changed based on the results of the test. Lalu’s health will be examined both before and after the hearing,” Dr. Vidyapati said.

The doctors said that Lalu is taking food only on the advice of the dietician.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has been in judicial custody for 39 months since his conviction in the fodder scam cases in 2017.

However, he spent a little over eight months at the Birsa Munda Jail in Hotwar here. Most of his time was spent at government-run medical colleges in Ranchi and New Delhi because of his ailing health.

Lalu walked out of AlIMS in April last year after being granted bail by the Jharkhand high court. On February 13, 2022, he returned to Ranchi to appear for a CBI court hearing of the fifth fodder scam case which was heard on February 15.

On being convicted on February 15, Lalu obtained the jail authority’s permission to get admitted in RIMS after the court put the onus on it to take a call on the request.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for today.
