Daltonganj, Dec 6: Search efforts have been further intensified to sight the limping adult elephant in the jungles of Maromar under the South division of the Palamu tiger reserve.
A 7- member team of the Midnapore wildlife expert of West Bengal along with the veterinary team of the Jharkhand’s Ormanjhi based Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park and a couple of veterinary doctors of Latehar district scoured the jungles on Sunday, but the limping elephant could not be sighted.
“We will further fan out in a much larger area to locate the limping elephant,” said Kumar Ashutosh, Field director and chief conservator of Palamu forest tiger reserve.
“Our own team from Ormanjhi, led by its vet surgeon O P Sahu and Latehar district veterinary surgeons are giving valuable support to the team that has arrived here from Midnapore,” he added.
A wildlife expert D S Srivastava had emphasised that Jharkhand should have by now its own expertise in handling such cases of the ailment or injuries of the wildlife instead of looking towards West Bengal.
