Simdega: Former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka has received major relief from the Supreme Court after being granted bail in a case related to alleged violations of the CNT Act.
Relief After Appeal Against Conviction
Ekka had challenged his conviction and sentence awarded by a CBI court. After approaching the High Court earlier, he later moved the Supreme Court seeking relief.
The apex court heard the matter and granted bail.
Time Already Served Considered
During arguments, lawyers representing the prosecution informed the court that Ekka had already spent around four-and-a-half years in custody in connection with the case.
Based on this, the Supreme Court set aside the earlier High Court order and allowed bail.
15-Year-Old Land Law Case
The matter is linked to an alleged violation of the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act and dates back nearly 15 years. A special CBI court had found Ekka, his wife, and others guilty in the case.
The allegations relate to misuse of official position during his tenure as minister.
Supporters Celebrate Decision
Following the bail order, supporters of the former minister reportedly welcomed the development and expressed happiness over the court’s decision.
