New Delhi, March 20: Former Union minister Sharad Yadav on Sunday merges his Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Lalu Prasad Yadav at former’s residence in Delhi.
“Merger of our party with RJD is first step towards opposition unity. It’s imperative that whole opposition gets united across India to defeat BJP,” said Sharad Yadav.
“As of now, unification is our priority, it’ll be only after that we would think about who’ll lead the united opposition,” he added.
Notably, the LJD has never contested an election since its creation in May 2018, with Sharad himself running unsuccessfully for the RJD in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Madhepura. Suhashini Yadav, Sharad’s daughter, ran unsuccessfully as a Congress candidate for the Bihariganj seat in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.
