Ranchi, June 13: Former urban development minister and assembly speaker C.P. Singh on Monday condemned the demonstration staged by Congress party across the country to protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the latter’s step of issuing summons to their senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to question in a matter of money laundering.

Singh said it is wrong to mount pressure on a constitutional institution which has started a probe to know how come Associated Journal Limited, established in 1930 with the share of 5000 freedom fighters, got converted into a charitable trust, Young Indian and how come Congress party gave a loan amount of Rs 90 crore and then waived it.

Singh, who is also an MLA from Ranchi, said the action of Congress party can be compared with the action of local people who lay siege over police stations when police detain their leader for questioning. The action suggests that the party can go to any extent to save a family.

Singh, on the occasion, replied to some of the queries of media persons on the recent violence in Jharkhand capital. He termed the violence a big failure of district administration saying preparations were not adequate to deal with it though the police have all inputs.

Asked about the demand of high compensation to the victims’ kin, he said that demand can be anything from giving martyr status to Bharat Ratna to victims and proper pension to their kin but all this will be unjustified.

He also expressed his doubt about the arrest of the real culprit behind the violence. “Mandar election and vote bank politics will never allow this government to handle trouble makers with iron hand,” he added.
