Washington, June 2: Police reported a gunman killed at least four people at a hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday. The suspect was also slain in the attack at the St. Francis Health System hospital complex, authorities said. He was equipped with a rifle and a handgun.
“Right now we have four civilians that are dead, we have one shooter that is dead, and right now we believe that is self-inflicted,” said Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish.
He said authorities arrived quickly after receiving reports that a shooter had made it to the second floor of a clinic connected to St. Francis. Police went floor by floor, room by room in an effort to clear the building during what authorities described as an active shooter situation.
Captain Richard Meulenberg of Tulsa police said earlier that the situation was catastrophic, with several persons shot and many injuries. It was unclear how many other people may have been hurt.
According to Dalgleish, the entire assault lasted around four minutes from the time emergency calls were received to the time authorities engaged the shooter.
