Lucknow, June 3: Violence erupted in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Friday, as members of the minority group clashed with police. At least four people were injured in the incident.
According to reports, the violence erupted after police baton-charged some residents in the Becongunj neighbourhood near Yatimkhana. Hundreds of people took to the streets to demonstrate.
Some residents observed store closures and staged a parade in protest over an alleged disrespect to Prophet Mohammad. Soon after the clash broke out.
While the situation was initially brought under control, the violence flared up again a short time later, with at least two rounds fired. Police have reportedly requested further reinforcements, according to reports.
