New Delhi, April 2: Fuel prices continued to rise on Saturday, with both petrol and diesel rates increasing by 80 paise per litre, bringing the total increase to nearly Rs 7.20 per litre in ten revisions in 12 days.
Petrol costs Rs 102.61 per litre in the national capital Delhi, while diesel costs Rs 93.87 per litre. Petrol and diesel rates in Mumbai have increased by 85 paise to Rs 117.57 and Rs 101.79 per litre, respectively.
Petrol and diesel rates in Chennai are Rs 108.21 per litre and Rs 108.21 per litre, respectively (increased by 76 paise). The price of petrol in Kolkata is Rs 112.19 (up 84 paise) and diesel is Rs 97.02 (increased by 80 paise).
There had been a hiatus in fuel price revisions since November 4 of last year, which was interrupted on March 22 as crude oil prices rose in response to Russian military operations in Ukraine.
On November 3 of last year, the Centre lowered excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 10 per litre to lower retail prices across the country.
Numerous state governments also decreased the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel to help consumers.
