While diesel prices have climbed in 10 of the last 13 days, petrol prices have risen in 7 of the previous 9 days.
Before making any price changes, OMCs chose to keep a close eye on the worldwide oil situation. This is why petrol prices have remained unchanged for the past three weeks. However, high volatility in global oil price movement has prompted OMCs to implement the rise, according to IANS.
After reaching a three-year high of USD 80 a barrel earlier this week, the global benchmark fell to USD 78 a barrel before recovering to USD 81 a barrel again, according to the IANS report, as OPEC+ decided to stick to its modest output lowering plan and the market remained tight.
According to the IANS report, since September 5, when both petrol and diesel prices were changed, the price of petrol and diesel on the international market has increased by roughly USD 8-9 per barrel compared to August average rates.
