Fuel prices hike for third day in a row

New Delhi, Oct.2: Petrol and diesel prices reached new highs on Saturday, for the third day in a row after rates were raised on all consecutive days. On October 2, the state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) amended the petrol  rates, and with this second increase, petrol and diesel prices are at an all-time high across the country.

Petrol prices jumped 25 paise per litre and diesel prices rose 30 paise per litre in the national capital on Saturday, according to Indian Oil Corporation. After the price of crude oil jumped in the worldwide market, the price of petrol and diesel began to rise.

Petrol is selling for Rs 101.14 per litre in Delhi, while diesel has surpassed the Rs 90 threshold and is now selling for Rs 90.47 per litre. The price of petrol in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, is Rs 108.15 per litre, while the price of diesel is Rs 98.12 per litre, the highest of the four metro cities.

Similarly, in Chennai, the price of petrol has been increased to Rs 99.76 per litre, while the price of diesel has been increased to Rs 94.99 per litre. Petrol costs Rs 102.74 per litre in Kolkata, while diesel costs Rs 93.54 per litre.

Fuel prices differ from state to state and city to city, depending on the impact of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges. Rajasthan has the highest VAT rate in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, according to sources.

Fuel prices were raised again on Friday, reaching an all-time high across the country. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by 25 paise and 30 paise, respectively, yesterday. Petrol and diesel prices in Delhi were Rs 101.89 and Rs 90.17 per litre, respectively.

Petrol has breached the Rs 100 barrier in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi-NCR. It costs Rs 113.28 per litre in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, while it costs Rs 113.01 per litre in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, soaring an all-time high.
