Daltonganj, June 25: A Rice Day in Garhwa district. It’s no new day but certainly, this Rice Day was either forgotten or shelved down by both the public distribution system dealers and the beneficiaries having ration cards.
Garhwa DC Shekhar Jamuar said the state government had long back introduced four days in a month to be dedicated to Rice Day and the dates were 15 and 16 and 25 and 26 every month.
Jamuar said, “It’s little over my 3 months joining here in Garhwa as its DC. I noticed people by and large have forgotten Rice Day. I decided to revive it.”
“Garhwa has a fleet of 963 PDS shops. All are open here today. These are delivering rice,” he added.
On being asked if he has stepped on the surveillance and monitoring of the day as Rice Day Jamuar said, “I have pressed in SDOs, BDOs and other functionaries of the civil supplies to detour the PDS shops in their respective areas to ensure no PDS dealer is ducking the day or has his shutter down on any pretext.”
The DC said the idea behind dedicating four days in a month to Rice Day was to see a must open of the PDS shops on every 15,16 and 25, 26 of the month for the benefit of the ration card holders. He said these days mean a guaranteed delivery of food grains by the PDS dealers.
Sources said the ration beneficiaries of Garhwa have hailed the rebirth of these four days in a month for their benefit.
