Daltonganj, Mar 23: An elderly shepherd along with his two dozen sheep were found dead near the village Karketa under the Majhiaon police station in Garhwa on Wednesday.
Giving details of the incident, SP Garhwa Anjani Kumar Jha said that the deceased has been identified as Saryu Pal and the injured deceased’s brother Prabhu Pal is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The police have so far found 24 dead sheep. Police have found so far no trace or evidence of use of any firearms.
DIG police Palamu range R K Lakra said that the Garhwa district police are investigating the matter.
“It is not a case of lynching rather it is a case of done to death probably due to some old dragging on enmity. Police are collecting information about the episode. We believe the family of the shepherd will cooperate with the police,” he added.
The bludgeoning of sheep to death is suggestive of the economic ruination of the shepherd Saryu who was found dead and his brother Prabhu.
“Our investigation is underway on multiple probabilities of which the family of the deceased and his kin may come at the centre point of the investigation. We have called in the veterinarian to find out as to how the sheep were killed,” SP Jha said.
SP Garhwa declined to make any further explanation saying it will be too premature to jump to any conclusion as to what was the immediate cause of the provocation to this sordid tragedy.
The body of Pal has been sent to Garhwa Sadar hospital for autopsy.
