New Delhi, Feb 25: Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the ceremonial reception.
Jitendra Singh, the Union’s State Minister for Science and Technology, attended the event as well. He arrived in India today and will be there from February 25 to 26.
According to a news statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), Scholz’s trip to India marks the first solo trip by a German chancellor since the IGC mechanism between the two countries was established in 2011. Senior government authorities and a powerful corporate delegation are with him.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will meet to address bilateral, regional, and international concerns. In addition, CEOs and business executives from both sides will speak with PM Modi and Scholz. He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu.
On February 26, he will travel to Bengaluru, according to a press release from the MEA. During Scholz’s visit to India, both countries will be able to assess the main outcomes of the 6th Inter-Governmental Consultation (IGC), make progress on those outcomes, strengthen security and defence cooperation, work towards closer economic ties, increase the opportunity for talent mobility, and provide strategic direction for ongoing science and technology collaboration.
The MEA added that both countries collaborate closely on multilateral and global platforms, particularly as a member of the G4 for UN Security Council reforms.
The MEA in the press release noted, “The India-Germany Strategic Partnership is underpinned by shared values, trust and mutual understanding. Robust investment and trade linkages, cooperation in the areas of green and sustainable development and growing people-to-people ties have strengthened bilateral relations.”
Notably, India and Germany have a strong economic relationship. India’s greatest trading partner in the EU and one of its top 10 international trading relationships is Germany. One of the biggest foreign direct investors in India is it as well. Germany is India’s largest trade partner in the European Union and has consistently been among India’s top 10 global trade partners. It is also one of the largest foreign direct investors in India.
