Jamshedpur, Nov 13: Most parts of Jharkhand woke up to gloomy weather on Saturday with Ranchi, Jamshedpur and several other cities witnessing light spell of rain, which was due to the impact of depression over the Bay of Bengal.
The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal lay centred over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal, 130 km eastsoutheast of Chennai and 150 Km eastnortheast of Puducherry.
The depression was moving northwestwards, revealed satellite pictures. A low pressure trough was also prevailing over neighbouring Bengal.
According to statistics available from IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre, Ranchi recorded 11.2 mm while Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas witnessed 1 mm of rain.
Reports of early morning rain also poured in from Khunti, Ramgarh, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Simdega and several other places.
A dense cover of cloud prevailed in several districts. Head of Ranchi Met Centre, Abhishek Anand said light rain was expected in southern and central Jharkhand due to the impact of the depression, till November 15.
Due to cloud cover the minimum readings in most districts witnessed a rise while day readings witnessed a drop.
