Ranchi, Sept 6: Interference of seniors in a dispute among children resulted in an acid attack which injured five in the Mahagama area in Godda district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the Bhanjpur locality under the Mahagama police station. Police have arrested the accused and have started a probe to verify allegations and counter allegations of persons involved in the incident.

The injured included Afroza Khatoon, Gulbasa Khatoon, Baturan Bibi, Mohammad Abbu Basar Ansari, Mohd. Mehtab Ansari.  Accused of the attack is Alok Sah, who is a jewelry shop owner.

Superintendent of police of the district Nathu Singh Meena confirmed the incident saying that ‘injury was minor’. “The children whose dispute gave rise to the incident were below 10,” Meena said.

Explaining how the injury was minor, SP Meena said, “The one, who allegedly attacked the others, runs a jewelry shop and had little amount of acid for cleaning ornaments.  Hardly some drops of acid came in contact with the victims. The matter is under investigation and a conclusive statement can be given in the matter once the investigation is completed.”

A locality resident said that after a dispute between children, Afroza Khatoon, mother of a child supported by four others reached to pacify it. Alok Sah, father of another child, also intervened in the matter. Amid hue and cry, Shah allegedly broke a bottle of acid on Afroza’s head which spilled over to others though police has yet to discover the circumstance under which acid was used.
