New Delhi, June 2: Google has announced that the Duo and Meet applications would be combined into a single video calling platform. In the next weeks, Google will begin merging all of the Google Meet capabilities into the Duo app.

The Duo app will be renamed Google Meet later this year as a result of this move. The Duo app was created with the intention of being used for personal video calls. Users will eventually be able to organise meetings on the Duo app using the Google Meet features. All Google Workspace users, as well as old G Suite Basic and Business customers, as well as all personal Google accounts, will be able to use this service.

Google made the announcement via an official blog post on Wednesday, June 1. Duo customers will only need to download the newest update to get these functionalities, and will not need to download a new app. It contains a rundown of some of the new features that will be available in Duo starting this month. Users can now personalise their virtual backgrounds for phone calls and meetings. Meetings that have been scheduled will also be available on the Dup app. A new option will be available to livestream content while communicating with other call participants.

The maximum number of participants per call will also be extended from 32 to 100. Other Google platforms, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Assistant, Messages, and others, will be connected with the Duo.

These integrations do not imply that the Duo app is being phased out. Personal contacts can still be video called using their phone numbers and email addresses. The app will continue to preserve all conversation history, contacts, and messages. If this integration works successfully, we may anticipate the new Google Meet to give rival video calling platforms like WhatsApp and FaceTime a serious run for their money.
