Ranchi, June 7: Chief Minister’s official residence in the Jharkhand capital is being fortified.
This is reflected after a rough survey of the locality around the chief minister’s residence this afternoon. Gorkha jawans were noticed at all the strategic locations of the chief minister’s house while outside the residence, jawans of the special task force (STF) equipped with sophisticated fire arms were noticed keeping vigil.
“The change in security cover had been done four days back. JAP-4 has been replaced by JAP-1 while the district police have been replaced by STF. Very soon the team of the special branch will also be replaced,” an official at the CM’s official residence said.
The reason behind the fortification of the house could not be ascertained. An insider, however, said it is a routine exercise and one should not ake otherwise. A police official said it is an attempt to give the best security cover to the chief minister.
“JAP-1 is the most elite force in Jharkhand which comprises Indian Gorkhas. Its inception can be traced back to 1880 A.D. by the British during the Victorian Age to restore justice, peace and harmony in colonial rule. It is the oldest paramilitary force of India. Though, its names keep on changing with the advent of time. Today it has more than 14 companies rendering service in Naxalite-prone remote areas, escorting VVIPS and VIPs of the state. Numerous JAP-1 jawans have laid their lives while rendering duties,” the police official said.
