Khunti: On the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram visited his ancestral village Ulihatu in Jharkhand’s Khunti district to pay their heartfelt tributes. The dignitaries offered traditional tribal prayers and garlanded Birsa Munda’s statue at his birthplace, honouring his enduring contribution to India’s tribal identity and freedom struggle.
Tributes And Traditional Ceremony
The Governor, Chief Minister, and Union Minister performed rituals in accordance with tribal customs, followed by floral tributes at the memorial site. The atmosphere in Ulihatu was filled with reverence as thousands gathered to commemorate the life and legacy of Birsa Munda, the revered tribal leader and freedom fighter who led the Ulgulan (The Great Tumult) against British colonial rule.
Honouring Birsa Munda’s Descendants
During the ceremony, the dignitaries also met and felicitated Birsa Munda’s descendants by draping them with shawls and presenting mementos as a token of respect. The leaders acknowledged his pivotal role in shaping Jharkhand’s identity and reaffirmed their commitment to the upliftment and empowerment of tribal communities.
