Rajkot, April 2: Lemon prices have shot up in Gujarat’s Rajkot, with merchants now selling them for Rs 200 per kg. The price increase coincides with the onset of hotter summers. Lemon prices are claimed to be soaring as a result of a supply deficit and increased demand.
A customer told news agency ANI, “The price of lemon is touching Rs 200/kg. It was around Rs 50-60/kg earlier. We have to fit everything into a budget. But this increase in price is affecting our ‘kitchen budget’. We don’t know when will the prices go down.”
People choose to include lemon in their diet as the temperature rises since lemons are high in Vitamin C and aid in remaining hydrated while also encouraging digestion.
The rise in price of lemons has also affected the sellers as customers are now buying them in less quantities after the unexpected surge.
