Jamshedpur, Oct 5: A gang of six bike-borne men swooped over the house of a businessman at Haldipokhar Muslim Bustee under Kowali thana area, about 20 kms away from here late Monday night.

The attackers who were from Adityapur Muslim Bustee in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district had fired a shot inside the house, targeting the 40-year-old businessman Abdul Qayyum, but the victim fortunately escaped unhurt.

Those swooped over the house left the spot having assaulted two women members for playing a role to save the businessman.

In this connection, the police have registered a case of attempted murder and Arms Act on an FIR lodged by Abdul against Imran, Arman, Munna, Firdous, Khursheed and one unidentified youth.

OC, Kowali thana, Amit Kumar Rabidas said that the gun-shut attack on Abdul took place in the sequel to a monetary dispute between the victim and the attackers, some of whom are close relatives of the former.

“In March this year, Abdul had given a loan of Rs 20,000 to his relative Abdul Wahid during the marriage of Wahid’s daughter. Whenever the victim would ask for refund of his money, Wahid’s family members would evade the victim. On Monday evening when Abdul reminded Wahid about the money, the latter’s son Imran had threatened the victim with consequences and late in the night six armed men swooped over the victim’s house travelling about 25 kms from Adityapur, ” said Rabidas.

Having taken a statement from the victim, the OC said soon after reaching his house, one of the attackers had fired the shot targeting him.

“But as the shot missed the target, Abdul’s wife Rukhsar Perveen and another woman shut the victim in an adjoining room. Then only the attackers had assaulted the women, ” he said.

The OC said they had received a verbal complaint from the victim over the phone late last night itself and had tried to apprehend the attackers by setting up checking points at a number of places, but they managed to escape.

“Today we have received a formal FIR following which we started to nab the accused by raiding their house in Adityapur, but they have all absconded,” said the OC, adding that the raids are on.
