Varanasi, May 18: The hearing on the Gyanvapi Mosque case has been stalled today in Varanasi court due to a lawyer strike. The court will announce fresh hearing dates soon.
“I have received phone calls from the general secretary and I have been told that several petitions have come for admission. Gyanvapi Mosque matter is very important, so all the members of the executive have been called,” said Dhirendra Nath Sharma, Benaras Bar Association President.
The Bar Association has objected to a notice sent to lawyers by the Uttar Pradesh government. Lawyers are on strike across the state over the issue. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Madan Mohan Yadav, has asked the Bar Association to allow essential proceedings to be conducted on Wednesday.
Following the lawyers’ strike, the Muslim side asked the court for two days to file their opposition plea.
Notably, the Court Commissioner has been given two days to file his report by the court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side, stated on Wednesday that an application has been filed in Varanasi court to remove the wall beside wazukhana where a Shivling is reported to have been discovered during the assessment of the Gyanvapi Mosque premises.
