Earlier, the Muslim side has argued that the object that the Hindu side claimed to be a “Shivling” was really a component of the water fountain system at the “wazookhana” reservoir, where worshippers carry out ablutions before performing namaz.
The Supreme extended its earlier directive for the safeguarding of the “Shivling” found at Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque complex in November 2022. The Supreme Court’s decision was made in response to the Hindu side’s argument that the Supreme Court’s protection of the “Shivling” area order from May 17 needed to be extended because it was set to expire on November 12.
