Varanasi, Nov 14: A fast-track court on Monday postponed until November 17 its decision on a request for authorization to enable the worship of a “Shivling” allegedly discovered inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex in this location.

The decision was delayed till November 17 by Civil Judge (senior division) Mahendra Pandey, according to Assistant District Government Counsel Sulabh Prakash.

The court had set a date for November 8 to rule on the case after hearing arguments from both sides of the controversy on October 27.

On November 8, the case was scheduled for Monday because the judge was out of the office.

Three Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh leaders, including its global general secretary Kiran Singh, have filed the petition. Additionally, it demanded that Hindus take control of the entire complex area and that Muslims be prohibited from entering the Gyanvapi complex.

On May 25, Varanasi District Judge A K Vishevesh transferred the case from the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar’s bench to the fast-track court. A “shivling,” according to reports, was discovered during a videographic inspection of the mosque.
