Raipur, Feb 25: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said she was glad that her innings could conclude with the party’s mass outreach programme ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ while describing the march as “a turning point” for the party.
On the second day of the party’s three-day 85th plenary session, which was held in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, she spoke to 15,000 delegates.
A full-scale attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was also launched by the former head of the Congress, who accused it of “stoking the flame of hatred” and “viciously targeting minorities, women, Dalits, and tribals.” She asked the Congress members to take on the present administration head-on and engage the public to spread the party’s message.
Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, two prominent members of the Congress, came on Friday to take part in the plenary session, which is taking place from February 24 to 26.
“Our victories in 2004 and 2009 under the able leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh gave me personal satisfaction, but what makes me happy is that my innings ended with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a turning point for the Congress. It has proved that the people of India overwhelmingly want harmony, tolerance and equality,” the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chief said.
Sonia Gandhi urged people to make sacrifices by putting their own interests aside. Under Mallikarjun Kharge’s leadership, we will be successful, and the party’s victory will also be the country’s.
Gandhi, in a covert attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a dispute involving entrepreneur Gautam Adani’s business empire, charged that the government was ruining the economy by favouring a certain businessman.
Every member of Congress, according to her, has a specific duty to the party and the nation at this pivotal time.
Gandhi claimed that Congress is more than just a political party because it represents the opinions of individuals from all castes, faiths, and genders. She claimed that the gathering will make all of their aspirations come true.
