Chandigarh: The Haryana government announced a three-day state mourning from December 20 to 22 to honor the demise of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who passed away in Gurugram on Friday.
Official Tributes and Public Holiday
An official order from the Chief Secretary’s office stated, “The national flag will fly at half-mast throughout the state on all buildings where it is flown regularly. All state government functions are canceled, and there will be no official entertainment during this period.”
Additionally, the Haryana government declared December 21 as a public holiday in all state government offices as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
State Funeral in Sirsa
Om Prakash Chautala will be accorded a state funeral at 3 PM at his family’s Teja Khera farm in Sirsa district, where his last rites will be performed.
A Political Giant Remembered
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president and five-time Chief Minister of Haryana, Om Prakash Chautala, passed away at the age of 89. He was the son of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal and a towering figure in Haryana’s politics.
Chautala suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Gurugram and was rushed to Medanta Hospital, where he breathed his last around noon, a party spokesperson confirmed.
