New Delhi: The Hardayal Public School NEET testing centre in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, which previously saw six students achieving perfect scores, has shown a significant decline in performance following a Supreme Court-ordered retest on June 24. An analysis of the new data revealed that none of the students scored above 682 marks this time.
The retest results showed that out of 494 students who appeared, the highest score was 682, achieved by just one student. Additionally, only 13 students managed to score above 600 marks, marking a stark contrast to the initial results of the May 5 exam, which saw multiple perfect scores.
The controversy began when the NEET exam data for the centre was released, showing an improbable number of perfect scores. This led to widespread suspicion and eventually, the Supreme Court intervened, cancelling the questionable marks and ordering 1,563 candidates to retake the exam. About 800 students participated in the retest.
In the original NEET-UG exam on May 5, over 500 students sat for the exam at this centre, with two students scoring 718 and 719 marks respectively. These scores were considered mathematically unlikely, prompting the Supreme Court to order the re-examination.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has since published city-wise and centre-wise results for the medical entrance exam NEET-UG, following the Supreme Court’s directive. The identities of the candidates were masked to ensure fairness and to address concerns over the integrity of the initial results.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted on May 5, was held across 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 international locations, with over 24 lakh candidates participating. Allegations of irregularities, including a paper leak, have placed the exam under intense scrutiny.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to resume hearings on the matter on July 22. Multiple petitions seek the cancellation of the exam, a complete retest, and a court-monitored investigation into the allegations of malpractice.
