Hazaribag, June 18: The 11th National Dragon Boat Competition, which has been going on since June 16 at Tilaiya Dam in Barhi concluded on Sunday. Haryana team performed best and became the overall champion while Punjab was the runner-up and Delhi stood third. For the first time in the history of Jharkhand, 468 participants from 14 states participated in this National Dragon Boat Competition. Out of which 228 are female players and 240 are male. In the concluding ceremony, all the winners were honoured with medals and certificates. During the competition, the NDRF team did not reach, but for security, three different teams of local divers were present.
Addressing the function, Jharkhand unit President cum retired IAS BC Thakur said that the Jharkhand team will get state-level training for the next two days under the supervision of a national level coach. He also said that Barhi Jawahar Ghati Dam will be developed as a state-level training ground.
Vice President cum competition director Tapas Pathak said that Barhi has limitless possibilities considering the panoramic view of Jawahar Ghati and the reservoir. General Secretary Binod Verma appreciated the hospitality of Sridas School in Barhi. District President Rohit Kumar Singh proposed the vote of thanks. BJP leader Ranjit Chandravanshi said that Barhi has got a new identity from this National Dragon Boat Competition.
