Hathras(UP): The recent stampede at the satsang of self-styled godman Suraj Pal, also known as Narayan Sakar Hari, was not an accident but a deliberate conspiracy, according to AP Singh, the lawyer representing the godman.

Addressing the media on Sunday, Singh claimed that at least 15-16 masked individuals were present during the July 2 satsang when the stampede occurred, resulting in 121 deaths. Singh alleged that these individuals sprayed a toxic gas into the crowd and then fled the scene in a car.

“There was a conspiracy to frame Bhole Baba (another name for Narayan Sakar Hari),” asserted Singh, presenting receipts showing clearances obtained from the police, fire, and traffic departments.

Singh has called on the police to seize the CCTV footage of the incident, which he believes is crucial for identifying the culprits. “This is not an accident. It’s a murder,” he stated emphatically.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have so far arrested nine people, including two women and three senior citizens. Several volunteers (sevadars) from the satsang, including Dev Prakash Madhukar, the main organizer of the Hathras event, have been named as accused. According to the police, Madhukar was responsible for fundraising for Narayan Sakar Hari’s events.

However, Singh, who also represents Madhukar, claimed that Madhukar voluntarily surrendered to the police in Delhi, where he was seeking medical treatment.

Suraj Pal, who is not named as an accused in the FIR, has been untraceable since the incident on July 2.
