VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR

Hazaribag, Oct 15: The Krishnapuri Talab (pond), which was lying in neglect and due to which its 3 acres of land was grabbed by land sharks, has now got a fresh lease of life with the Hazaribag Municipal Corporation taking up the renovation work.

The corporation’s Rs 28 lakh plan is to install lights and fountains here besides taking up a plantation drive to make it a clean and green reservoir.

Sources said that this pond’s worst day started in Matwari mohalla when people started capturing its land and a new mohalla named Krishnapuri came up here. Though late, the district administration acted tough and identified the houses made on the encroached lands. The residents opposed the administration’s move and now the matter is in Jharkhand High Court. At present, this pond is in 1.5 acres of area.

For years, all wastage to polluted water coming out from houses was routed into this pond. Due to this, it became a waste dumping yard for people living here.

The corporation, which had taken up the renovation work here, used earthen movers to clean the pond. Even all channels that brought the wastewater into this pond were diverted. Now, after so many years, the pond is back to its actual look with clean water and is showing its natural beauty.

Sources said that soon iron poles will be installed around this pond and a 6-feet-high net will be erected around this reservoir to stop people from throwing waste into it.

Corporation’s Executive Engineer Ramesh Singh and Junior Engineer Sanjay urged people to not dump waste in this pond anymore. “We are erecting a six-feet-high iron net around this pond to stop such acts,” added the duo.
