Hazaribag: Forest dept bust illegal sawmill, recovers timber worth Rs 2 lakh

VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR

Hazaribag, Oct.21: The forest department busted an illegal sawmill and recovered timber worth Rs 2 lakh in the Gobindpur area of Vishnugarh block. The action came after a tip-off making divisional forest officer Saurabh Chandra to order his team to take action against this illegal sawmill.

Sources said the team raided this mill and used a JCB machine to destroy it completely. Machines installed here were also uprooted and damaged. The recovered timber was taken to the forest department’s nursery in Nawada of Vishnugarh by tractors.

The two persons running this illegal mill were identified as Jeevadhan Mahto and his son Baijnath Mahto. An FIR was lodged against the duo at Vishnugarh police station.

The raid team included forest range officer of Bagodar Suresh Ram and his Daru counterpart Vijay Kumar beside Anshu Kumar, Sanjeet Ravidas, Pyarelal Saw, Pankaj Kumar, Sanjeet Verma, Mohammad Raza Ahmad, Mohammad Aslam, Somnath Modak, Ranjan Kumar, Dev Narayan and Bhuvneshwar Mandal.
