Hazaribag, Oct 17: A truck carrying readymade garments and sweaters caught fire in Rasoidhamna on GT road on Monday, gutting the entire consignment. Local youths present on the spot came into action and save the truck from fire. The driver of the truck said the gutted consignment was worth several lakhs.
Sources said the driver and cleaner were at a line hotel having a meal when all sudden they saw fire coming from the truck. The locals alerted the duo but by that time, flames had started coming out from the garments loaded in the truck. Within seconds, it gutted the entire consignment.
An eyewitness Mahavir Prasad said that local youths present there swung into action and doused the flames. He said though they failed to save the garments, the truck was saved. On receiving the information, Barhi police and firefighters also reached the spot.
It was not clear yet how the consignment caught fire. Police officials, however, didn’t rule out the possibility of some chemicals kept in the truck which was the reason behind this incident. “We will probe and find out the reason,” said a police officer.
