Hazaribag, Oct 19: The murder of a person belonging to the Bhuiyan community at Keredari in Hazaribag sparked anger among the villagers after delayed action by the police. One Sitan Bhuiyan was dragged out of his house and taken away with police finding his dead body tied with an electric pole on Oct 10.
News of Sitan’s death sparked anger in the area. His wife and other family members said the reason behind this murder was an illicit relationship. They said Sitan was opposing his sister-in-law’s illicit relationship with a village youth and due to this, he was murdered so mercilessly hanging him with a pole.
Despite a named FIR, Keredari police failed to arrest the accused which sparked anger with Bhuiyan Samaj calling a meeting to mount pressure on the police. Simaria MLA Kishun Das also demanded action against the culprits by talking to senior police officers after which the Keredari police swung into action and arrested three persons including a woman. Police officials said they are conducting raids to nab eight others who are named in FIR.
“We are only voting banks and so if anything happens with us, no one supports us,” said a villager Basudev Ram.
“Sitan’s murder is enough to confirm this but we will not sit quietly but gherao Keredari police station on Thursday,” the villagers added in a meeting held yesterday evening.
Sensing trouble, Keredari police arrested three including Sitan’s sister-in-law and two others. “We will arrest eight others also soon,” added a police officer.
