VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR

Hazaribag, Nov 8: Police received a shot in the arm by arresting two hardcore Maoists including a platoon commander and one woman who is heading the woman wing of the outfit. Police officials, not disclosing the details, said it is a big success and they are interrogating both.

Sources said a team led by Barkagaon SDPO Amit Singh was on an operation against Maoists and based on input, they carried out a raid in the forest on the border of Keredari and Bhurkunda. Both Maoists were caught with huge caches of arms and ammunition.

The arrested include Binod Munda aka Chandan, who is a platoon commander and regional committee member of the outfit. Another is Suvidha who heads the women’s wing of the outfit. The officials said both are top-ranked leaders of the outfit and active in the organisation for two and a half decades. There are wanted extremists but no rewards are there on their heads.

About Binod, it appeared that he joined the outfit when he was a minor and didn’t return to his home again. About Suvidha, the police said she is also wanted in cases lodged in Bihar. “We will take the duo on remand to get more details about their involvement in other incidents,” they added.
