Hazaribag, Sept 30: A police team from Hazaribag recovered two Insas rifles, 1 carbine, pistol and bullets from a forest in Keredari block on the confessional statement of arrested regional commander Karu Yadav on Friday.

Karu Yadav a.k.a Deepak Yadav, who carried a reward of Rs 15lakh on his head, was arrested by Mumbai police on a tip-off last week when he went there for his treatment. He is known as the most wanted and dreaded Maoists of the state having 56 cases lodged against him in various districts.

Superintendent of police Manoj Ratan Chauthe said Karu was taken on remand and questioned by a team constituted by him for this purpose.

He said this team comprises of Barkagaon subdivisional police officer Amit Kumar Singh and DSP (CCR) Arif Ekram. During interrogation, Karu passed the information that he had kept arms and ammunition at a secret place in Backchoma forest in Keredari block. This made a joint team of police and CRPF to search the forest area where they found arms and ammunition.

Chauthe said they had recovered two Insas rifles, one country-made carbine, one 9mm pistol with one bullet, 200-live bullets and one pouch to keep bullets.

“We had registered an FIR numbered 140/22 under arms act and CLA act in Keredari police station,” he said.

He said they recovered a few arms that were looted from police in the past and they are verifying this from other districts’ police.

The team which raided Keredari forest comprises of assistant commandant of CRPF Durgesh Kumar, Barkagaon circle inspector Shyamchandra Singh, Officers-in-charge Sadhan Chandra Gorai (Keredari), Uttam Tiwary (Korra), Bajrang Mahto (Muffasil) and Anand Azad (Katkamsandi) beside armed jawans of police and CRPF.
