Hazaribag, Oct 19: Jwar Pahadpur village in Gorhar panchayat of Barkatha block is surrounded by forests having no road making each and every house keep a doli at home so as to rush patients to the hospital. Last night, a woman’s condition worsened due to labour pain and was carried by four villagers on a doli to the Shiladih health centre where she gave birth to a baby boy.
A resident Mani Lal said that the village has 300 houses for a population of around 2,000. “Despite 75 years of independence, we lack a road here which is the main problem we are facing for decades,” he added.
Surrounded by dense forest, villagers said they have to walk for 5 km to reach to the nearest facility in Shiladih. Many elderly people have died in the past years due to a lack of medical facilities.
“Just think about this pregnant woman whom we carried to a health centre in Shiladih. If we got late, it would have become fatal for her and her baby,” said Mani Lal.
Villagers said candidates come to their village during elections promising big. But the promise of a road never became a reality, added Ram Mehta.
They added that officials knew about their problem but no step is ever taken. “We are planning to meet officials to representatives again to tell them that there is still a village which lacks basic amnenities to a road, added villagers. Hame pehle road chahiye (We first need a road),” they added.
We knew well that a proper road will only ensure development of our village.
A panchayat representative on condition of anonymity said he will not make any hollow promise.
“I will ensure that project related to a road get cleared soon,” he added.
