Ramgarh, Oct 19: West Bokaro’s Sapna Kumari has brought glory to Jharkhand by winning the silver medal in the 61st Open National Athletics Championships held at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru from October 15 to 19.
Sapna won the medal by completing the 100 meters hurdles in 13.26 seconds. On the other hand, Jyoti of Railways got the first position and Nandani of Telangana got the third position.
Earlier, Sapna has brought laurels to the state by winning a medal in the National Games held in Gujarat. For the 36th National Games held in Gujarat from 29 September to 12 October, 9 players were selected from the Jharkhand state team.
West Bokaro’s Sapna Kumari was also included in the Jharkhand 4 team. In the competition, where all the other players of the Jharkhand team were disappointed in their respective events, while Sapna Kumari of West Bokaro performed brilliantly in the 100 meters hurdles. The success of Sapna brought two medals to the state.
Sapna Kumari is the daughter of former TISCO worker Shyam Sundar Singh and is currently working as Head Constable in CISF Delhi. Sapna is doing well under the successful training of coach Poonam Sahu in CISF. She said that the CISF coaches have a commendable role in maintaining the edge in the game.
