Hazaribag, July 14: Bodies of a married woman and her son were found in a well on Friday suggesting that she had committed suicide with the boy. The woman was identified as Seema Devi (27) and her younger son Suryansh (about 4 years) and was a resident of Moktama under Ichak block. The well was situated in the backyard of her house.
After seeing the bodies, villagers informed her husband Shambhu Kumar Mehta and other members of her family. There was a stir in the village after the bodies of Seema and her son were found in the well. In no time, the villagers ran towards the spot. After this, the information about the incident was given to the parents of Seema and to the Ichak police.
The Ichak police arrived after getting the information In the presence of the deceased’s parents and villagers, bodies were taken out of the well and sent to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
As the bodies were found in the well, Seema’s husband Shambhu Kumar Mehta and other members ran away from the house. Villagers said there was a fight between the husband and wife on Wednesday night after which Seema left the house on Thursday morning along with her 4-year-old son Suryansh. Villagers also said that before this incident, there had never been any quarrel between Seema and her in-laws.
Matuk Mahto, a resident of Pabra village, reached Mokatma village along with other family members after hearing the news of the death of his daughter Seema and grandson Suryansh. He alleged that in-laws always used to quarrel with Seema. He even charged Shambhu and his family members for killing Seema and dumping their dead bodies in the well on Thursday at midnight to avoid getting into legal trouble.
Sub-Inspector Arvind Herenj said that after the postmortem, the bodies of Seema and her son were handed over to relatives. The last rites were performed at Moktama Muktidham. The funeral pyre was lit by Lokan Mahto, the father-in-law of the deceased.
