Hazaribag, Jan 22: Villagers and local police in Napokhurd of Barkagaon block in presence of family members late on Saturday cremated the body of Puja Kumari allegedly killed over three months ago by her husband Shashi.

Notably, the body of Kumari was buried in one of the rooms of her husband Shashi’s house by her parents and other relatives after they were informed of her death. The family members of the victim then burnt Shashi’s house. It is alleged that Shashi shot her dead on September 27, 2022. Sources have informed that the couple married in 2022.

Earlier in the day, the victim’s relatives, family members and in-laws were convinced by the local police and villagers to exhume her body and perform her last rites. Barkagaon police sources have claimed that despite repeated pleas from officials, the relatives of the victim were earlier not ready to perform last rites.

Later, the last rites were performed by the victim’s father-in-law Bindeshwari Saw, as demanded by her father. The rites were performed in the presence of local villagers after the resolution of conflict among the family members of the victim and accused.

Sources further informed that both sides had lodged FIRs against each other for arson. In the latest development, both families have agreed to withdraw the cases against each other.
