Ramgarh, Sept 19: The Hazaribag police have not been able to arrest the accused loan recovery agents of Mahindra Finance who had killed a woman named Monika Kumari on September 15 in Ichak by crushing her with a tractor in the name of delay in the payment of installment. Monika’s family has expressed resentment over the delay in arrest of the accused as more than 72 hours have passed since her death.

People of the area are also angry over the brutality of the recovery agents. On Friday, September 16, they demonstrated with Monika’s body near the office of Mahindra Finance Company on Noora Road demanding the arrest of all the accused as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the employees and officers of Mahindra Finance including the accused in the case went missing after closing the office on Friday.

On September 15, while recovering the outstanding installment of the tractor from a farmer Mithilesh Mehta, his daughter Monika was crushed by the same tractor. Monica, who was three months pregnant, died on spot.

Mithilesh lodged an FIR against Roshan Singh of Mahindra Finance, alleging murder by the finance workers on the death of his daughter.

Former Hazaribagh MP Bhuvneshwar Prasad Mehta, who reached the spot during the protest, said that if the people of the company keep running, the people’s representatives here will collectively protest. He also demanded the police to arrest the accused immediately.

Monika’s last rites were performed on Friday at her in-laws’ house. Due to her being pregnant, her father-in-law Jhaman Prasad Mehta lit the pyre instead of her husband Kuldeep.
