Hazaribagh, Jan 17: The police investigation in the death of a prominent businessman here has resulted in the collection of evidence which, in turn, gives a clean chit to the men in khaki. The evidence apparently proves that the death of the businessman was not the result of brutality by the police.
Officials have so far refused to share the outcome of the investigation but have admitted that whatever they have is enough to prove the duo officers’ innocence in the case. Notably, the duo was suspended on Sunday.
Notably, businessman Sunil Gupta was arrested by the police on Saturday late evening but was found grievously injured and was announced brought dead at the hospital. As a result of this, his relatives suspected custodial death and the police brutality for which they organised protests.
However, the police had then said that Gupta escaped from their clutches and fell down from the terrace of a house while trying to escape. On Sunday morning, the relatives began agitation which resulted in the suspension of two ASIs, namely Nasim Siddique and Seema Hembrom.
With the police facing criticism for the incident, superintendent of police Manoj Ratan Chauthe asked officials to thoroughly probe the case and uncover the facts.
Sources said that the police later recovered three CCTV footages of the spot showing Gupta running from the police. He was also seen entering someone’s house. This was the house from the terrace of which Gupta is said to have fallen while trying to escape. While falling off the terrace, Gupta had even broken an overhead cable wire.
Later, the police also received a call from a local resident informing them about a man that had fallen off a terrace. The police have now recorded his statement and taken the call details to establish that he had called the police control room to inform them of the incident.
Meanwhile, the family members of Gupta have charged the police with destroying evidence and even said that there is a threat to their lives as well. A police officer on this, while talking to Lagatar24.com correspondent commented that the claims of the family are baseless. “We don’t want to react to their statement but soon we will bring all the facts related to Gupta’s death in front of all with proper evidence,” the officer added.
