Hazaribagh: Three Birhor tribe youths electrocuted while stealing iron angle from electric tower

Ramgarh, July 28: Three Birhor tribe youths, who went to steal the iron angle by climbing the power tower, died of electrocution in Bilandi of Banasa in Vishnugarh block of Hazaribagh district.

The incident happened late Tuesday night and the villagers came to know about it on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Charku Birhor, Naresh Birhor and Jethu Birhor. Body of Jethu Birhor had been found hanging on the power tower, which was brought down by the officials of the National Power Grid. The remaining two dead bodies were taken home after the accident by the relatives of the dead located in Bilandi village and kept them hidden in the room.

After getting the information, the Vishnugarh station in-charge Ram Narayan Singh reached the spot and got information about the dead bodies kept hidden in the houses during interrogation and recovered them. All the bodies have been sent to Hazaribagh for postmortem. The police are investigating the matter and taking further action.

The OC said that the bodies would be handed over to the families after the postmortem. He said that all three died while opening the angle as the upper part of the tower swung down openly.

One of the victims died due to the current of the affected HT line and his body got stuck in the tower.  The other two youths died due to falling. Many angles of the tower located on the farm were found lying there.

This 400 KV power line of high tension has gone from Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS) to Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS). The incident of angle theft has caused huge damage which resulted in a loss of around Rs 40 lakh.
