Ranchi, Mar 29: Losing hair sometimes feels like losing a part of ourselves. While most of us abide by the age-old remedy of oiling our hair to help increase hair growth, it is important to understand that a high protein diet and increasing the intake of supplements like biotin, folate, sulphur, zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 helps to reduce hair fall.
In an interview with lagatar24.com , Dermatologist at MEDICA, shared, “I would recommend consuming iron-rich foods to improve iron storage and ferritin levels. These include green leafy vegetables, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, oatmeal, cereals, beans and tofu, nuts, pumpkin and squash seeds, liver and molluscs, among others. Those who can eat eggs should consume the same often as eggs are a great source of protein and biotin, two nutrients that promote hair growth.”

“Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidant properties must be consumed for the nourishment of hair and scalp from within. Also, there is a need to drink as much water as possible and avoid excessive sun exposure,” he added.
Apart from the food habits which are to be included in the diet, he added “Trimming hair is an important task to keep hairs healthy where the tip of the hair is to be cut regularly. Also, cleaning of hair is also required with shampoo.”
“Use of heat for straightening must be avoided as it damages the hair. At the same time, regular oiling of hair must be done and using shampoo the other day to clean the hair and conditioner which maintains the moisture of the hair,” Dr Prateek said.
Apart from these, reducing stress, avoiding heat styling or avoiding using too many hair products and taking medicines prescribed by a dermatologist aids in reducing damage to one’s hair.
