Ranchi, May 6: A hearing in the matter of mining lease involving Chief Minister Hemant Soren could not take place today as the division bench comprising Chief Justice Ravi Ranjan and Justice S.N.Prasad did not sit.

However, Advocate Amritansh Vats filed a reply on behalf of CM Hemant in the matter.

A PIL was filed in the Jharkhand High Court against CM Hemant Soren on February 11. In the PIL filed by Shiv Shankar Sharma, it has been alleged that Soren, who also heads the Mining and Forest, Environment Departments,  himself applied for environment clearance and got a mining lease.

According to the PIL, Soren misused his official position and thus violated the Representation of the People’s Act and therefore, this entire matter should be investigated by the CBI. The applicant has also demanded the cancellation of the membership of Hemant Soren through the petition.
