Jamshedpur, Sept 20: A low-pressure area originating from the Bay of Bengal would result in heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Jharkhand today.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a heavy rainfall alert, especially in western and central parts of Jharkhand. An alert of light to moderate thunder was also issued by the meteorological department.
The Met centre also issued an impact-based forecast indicating localized flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas, because of the downpour.
Weathermen said visibility might reduce, and disruption of traffic is expected at some places due to the heavy rain. The alert also said that a thunderstorm might injure people at cattle in open places. It asked commuters not to take shelter under trees.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Ranchi and Balasore in neighbouring Odisha. Moderate thundershowers activity was expected in Ranchi and its adjoining places today.
Weathermen said the rainfall caused by the low pressure would help in reducing the state’s rain deficit which as of today stood at 21 per cent.
