Jamshedpur, Sept 7: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of heavy rain in isolated pockets of Jharkhand on Tuesday, due to the impact of a low pressure originating from the Bay of Bengal.

Weathermen said widespread rain is expected and that the intensity of rain will be more in the southern parts of the state.

Several places including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad,  Bokaro, Ramgarh and Khunti woke up to overcast conditions with intermittent rains in Jamshedpur and several other places.

The showers were accompanied by winds blowing at a speed of 15-20 Kmph.

Notably, under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over north and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area formed over northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts on Monday.

An associated cyclonic circulation was extending upto 7.6 Km above mean sea level.

The impact of the low pressure was expected to remain for the next 24 hours or so, said a Met official in Ranch adding that they have also issued an alert of moderate thunder and lightning in several districts for the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Bikaner, Jaipur, Guna, Gondia, Gopalpur and stretched till east-central Bay of Bengal.

So far this monsoon Jharkhand received 803.8 mm of rain against a normal of 876.9 mm, a deficit of eight per cent.

Weathermen said they were expecting normal rain in September, the last monsoon month.
